The old Plumb hatchet company
made lots of different sized "Boy Scout" hatchets. They were all good.
The lightweight 3/4 lb. head hatchet with a hickory handle was, in our opinion,
one of the best hatchets ever produced for hunters, backpackers, and campers.
At only 11" long, it was easily carried on a belt or in a pack and performed
camp and field-dressing duties effortlessly.
Unfortunately, cheaper
overseas mass production and the movement to injection molded plastic handles
pretty well eliminated these beautiful and functional little hatchets with their
durable oil-finished American hickory handles.
Knives of Alaska has decided
to remedy that situation.
